South Shore
The Confederation Bridge connects Prince Edward Island to the mainland and is one of the longest continuous multi-span bridges in the world, five times longer than the San Francisco Bay Bridge. As motorists to Prince Edward Island arrive at the crest of the 13-kilometre Bridge, 60 meters above Northumberland Strait, they are presented with a marvelous vista of the Island's South Shore.
Bisected by the TransCanada Highway, the South Shore is a stunningly beautiful region of rolling hills and red cliffs that extends from The Bridge and Borden Carleton in the west to Cornwall in the east, as far north as the Kinkora Road (Rte 225) and, in the south, meets the shores of the Northumberland Straight. It encompasses prime agricultural land, small picturesque fishing harbours, lighthouses and many tourist attractions - plus scores of small businesses that are vital to its year-round economy.
It has an active Chamber of Commerce; a 100% volunteer, non-profit organization of business owners, professionals and individuals with a keen interest in the economic viability and well-being of their communities such as Victoria-by-the-Sea, Crapaud, Hampton, Bonshaw, and Albany. Between them, they offer a wide range of services from accommodations to construction & repair; from health care to sports & recreation.
