North Shore

The North Shore is geographically divided by the Hillsborough River on the east, the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the north, Highway #2 on the south, and Malpeque Bay on the west. 

It's geography varies from picturesque shorelines of sandstone cliffs and fragile dunes, miles of sandy beaches and sheltered bays to extensive farming operations throughout interior region, and the topography ranges from relatively flat to rolling hills.

World-famous for it's ‘Anne of Green Gables' as well as it's magnificent Cavendish and Brackley National Parks, this central north-shore region is filled to the brim with places to go and things to do. It is also a region of great contrast, offering both quiet corners and lively attractions. This range of choices is part of the appeal that is changing traditional fishing villages such as Stanley Bridge, Hope River, Bayview, North Rustico and Brackley into resort municipalities.

Today, urban sprawl extending from Charlottetown in the east of the county is the region's most dominant feature.  Many rural parts of the county within the greater Charlottetown area are facing increased pressures to subdivide and develop into suburbs to accomodate the demand for housing as the Island economy grows, bringing new families to the Island and bringing back the Islanders from away who are coming home to retire.
