Prince County

Prince County is located in western part of  Prince Edward Island and its defining geographic feature is Malpeque Bay which creates the narrowest portion of the Island landmass.  Malpeque Bay also marks an informal socio-economic division between the more urban East Prince and the rural West Prince.

The county was named by Capt. Samuel Holland in 1765 and the name "Prince County" is notable for being unique for titling land sub-divisions in the Commonwealth of Nations.

Picturesque fishing and farming communities, Summerside's historic architecture, secluded beaches, non-stop festivals and events are just some of the highlights of Prince County.  Add to this unspoiled natural wonders, fresh seafood and an area rich in Acadian culture and you have a first-rate glimpse of the Island's northwest region.

It is surrounded by the clean waters of Northumberland Straight on one side and the Gulf of St. Lawrence on the other. In addition, the only commercial electrical generation in the community is wind-driven and there are no significant industrial polluters in the area. All this amounts to PEI being among the provinces with the fewest declared ‘smog days.  

Prince County is a bastion of community strength, maintaining the tradition of neighborliness where residents cherish a more quiet lifestyle and mutual respect for each other.
