Kings County
The Island's easternmost region,
Kings County, features natural spaces and outdoor activities. Development in
this area is characterized by parks and trails, supported by country inns, fine
dining and historic crossroads such as the Orwell Corner
Historic Village
and the MacPhail Homestead. It also is
the home to numerous friendly communities such as Georgetown,
Murray River, East Point, Mount Stewart
and more.
This is a breathtaking region featuring some of the Island's most
pristine white beaches along with the Island's oldest lighthouse at Point Prim,
and the first Canadian land station to receive the distress signals from the
Titanic, Cape Bear Lighthouse.
Historical economies focused on shipbuilding, railway industries,
fishing and farming. Today's economies include the region's numerous top-of-the line golf courses and other attractions such as seal
watching tours, fishing expeditions, live theatre, and flight excursions.
Kings County is also the home of two Ferry services. The Woods Island Ferry provides access to
mainland Nova Scotia and the Souris Ferry
terminal is the gateway to the Magdelene
Islands.
